Watching YouTube Videos with VLC

Did you know that you can watch YouTube videos with VLC Media Player? I recently found out about this after doing some not so simple steps to make this happen and it’s as simple as the YouTube URL of the video itself.

There are many added benefits of watching a YouTube video with VLC, such as streaming it to other network clients, the ability save the video to a local file, take screenshots of video images.

To do this:

  1. Open VLC Media Player
  2. Select Media > Open Network Stream
  3. Under the Network Protocol enter in the YouTube URL of choice ( example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDDYYu5at8k )
  4. Click Play

Video URL in example: The Hodgetwins
