Back in the days of Server 2003 I remember being able to right click an application and “run as” with the purpose of running this program as a different user with an elevated level of security on the server. I am not sure how I missed this but it seems that in Server 2008 and Windows Vista, Microsoft had removed this functionality Later to return in Server 2008 R2, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
To solve this issue as there is a program I need to run I turned to Microsoft Sysinternals and the ShellRunas program to create the context-menu I needed. Simply by running the following shellrunas /reg in an elevated command prompt enables the right click ‘run as’ context-menu and you are all set.
